Permission to Stop Improving Yourself

Today I gave myself permission to stop trying to improve myself for a moment. I’ve had a running list of things to fix for as long as I can remember, and I’ve never once gotten to the bottom of it.

Growth matters, and you’re doing that work. But so does pausing long enough to notice that you’re already someone worth being — and probably further along than you give yourself credit for.

There’s a quiet kind of strength in saying, “I’m allowed to be whole right here, even while I’m still growing.” Self-acceptance isn’t giving up. It’s choosing to meet yourself with the same compassion you offer everyone else.

What’s one thing about yourself you’ve made peace with? Tell us in the comments.

And if someone names something you’ve been working on too, say so. Half the weight of these things is thinking you’re the only one carrying them.

The porch light is on. Pull up a chair.
