Setting Down What Was Never Yours to Carry.
There have been times when doing what I knew was good for me and my family felt like a burden. Like standing in cement while it hardened.
All of it fear. Fear of starting over, of learning something new, of criticism, of letting somebody down. Carrying that around was heavy. When I finally let go, I could physically feel it in my muscles.
Some of what we carry was never ours in the first place. Other people’s expectations, old criticism, fears we inherited. They take up a lot of room in a bag that was already full.
Once your hands are free, they’re free for something else.
What’s one thing you’re working on setting down right now? It doesn’t have to be big.
If somebody names something you’ve been carrying too, let them know. It gets a little lighter when you find out you’re not the only one hauling it.
The porch light is on. Pull up a chair.
